Join us, along with John Wagner from Wagner Vineyards, as we go into the vineyards to learn about Grafts and Clones in the Finger Lakes. Grafts - "Grafting" is a horticultural technique that splices the top of one vine onto the roots of another. The purpose of grafting is to combine the desirable characteristics of the top part (the scion) to the sturdier roots of another (the rootstock). ... Most vineyards in the world use grafted vines. Clones - In viticulture, a "Clone" refers to a vine variety that is selected for specific qualities, which result from natural mutations. Cuttings are made from an original "mother vine" that exhibits key characteristics, such as resistance to certain diseases or desired cluster size, taste, smell, etc. You will not be disappointed with the view from Ginny Lee Café, or the wines that we will be tasting, register now!
